When I was a kid, I always watched "Malcolm in the middle" on weekends. I was intrigued by the character of Lois, the "evil" and "cruel" mother of Francis, Reese, Malcolm, Dewey and Jamie.

Although she and her husband Hal work all day, Lois takes care of all the housework as well as the children. She doesn't have any free time, but she doesn't complain and continues to work tirelessly. In the series we see Lois resting only when she is seriously ill and it is Hal who performs with difficulty all the tasks that his wife takes care of on a daily basis.

At first I thought this character was terrible, but I finally understood that she behaves this way because her mother, the evil grandmother Ida, had been very cruel with her. On the other hand, Hal's rich family hates Lois, and reminds her that she has no money and is not very feminine.

Lois tries to prevent her children from being mischievous, and she educates them firmly. I disagree a little with her and her manner of upbringing her kids, but I also understand that her children behave in a terrible and crazy way, committing all types of unthinkable mischief that go beyond what she can control.

  1. That figure of the mother who grows very firm to her children is repeated in other television programs.

  2. Patriarchy is everywhere, it is very wrong for the family to function on the basis of the mother's sacrifice.
